Namibia Explorer is the most comprehensive self-drive route in our collection. Over 14 days, you'll move through seven distinct ecosystems — from the red sand dunes of the Kalahari in the south to the waterhole-dotted plains of Etosha in the north, with Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland and Waterberg Plateau woven in between.
This is the route for travellers who want to understand Namibia rather than simply photograph it. The Kalahari adds red dunes, meerkats and sociable weavers. Damaraland's ancient rock engravings and desert elephants reveal a different dimension of the country entirely. Waterberg Plateau — often missed on shorter itineraries — rewards visitors with white rhino, giraffe and dramatic sandstone cliffs.
Accorto Travel coordinates all bookings on this complex multi-destination route, including NWR camps at Etosha and Sossusvlei, Kalahari and Damaraland accommodation, vehicle and all park permits.
Airport collection, vehicle handover and transfer to accommodation. Windhoek orientation and briefing for the journey ahead.
Drive south-east into the Kalahari. Red sand dunes, sociable weaver nests, meerkats, cheetah and bat-eared foxes. Sunset over the red dunes. A striking start to the expedition.
Pre-sunrise access to Deadvlei. Big Daddy dune climb. Sesriem Canyon. The Namib's most iconic landscapes in two full days.
Coastal rest days in Swakopmund. Ocean air, fresh seafood, optional activities — sandboarding, sea kayaking, Walvis Bay flamingos.
Drive north into Damaraland. Twyfelfontein UNESCO rock engravings, Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain. Desert-adapted elephant tracking. Two nights in the ancient landscape.
Three full days in Etosha. Multiple camps, self-drive game drives, floodlit night waterhole viewing. Lion, elephant, rhino, giraffe and cheetah all regularly seen.
A final night at Waterberg Plateau — white rhino, giraffe and dramatic sandstone scenery. Return to Windhoek on Day 14 for departure.
Namibia Explorer adds the Kalahari Desert and Waterberg Plateau to the Classic Namibia route, extending to 14 days. The Kalahari at the start and Waterberg at the end offer completely different ecosystems and wildlife experiences.
Namibia's Kalahari has striking red sand dunes, vast camelthorn woodlands and sociable weaver nests — the largest bird nests in the world. Wildlife includes cheetah, meerkats, bat-eared foxes and abundant birdlife. It's a very different landscape from the rest of the trip.
Yes. Namibia Explorer is designed to give you enough time at each destination to genuinely experience it. The longest single driving day is approximately 5 hours. Read our self-drive guide for more on driving times.
13 nights accommodation, a 4x4 vehicle rental, all park fees (Etosha, Namib-Naukluft, Waterberg), selected activities, airport assistance, a detailed day-by-day itinerary and Accorto Travel support throughout. International flights, travel insurance, meals and personal expenses are not included.
Waterberg Plateau Park is a dramatic sandstone plateau rising 200 metres above the plains. It's home to white rhino, giraffe, roan antelope, tsessebe and buffalo — wildlife not commonly seen elsewhere on this route. A rewarding and often overlooked destination.
Yes. The route is self-drive on established roads and Accorto Travel provides a complete travel pack. If you're short on time for your first trip, consider First Adventure (7 days) or Classic Namibia (10 days) instead.
